Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation – Candidate Barbara Sarazin Council 2026
Anishinabek Algonquins tiji Pikwakanagan!

I give my respects to our Algonquin Ancestors, Our Elders & My Beautiful Gary Sarazin who is now on his Spirit Journey.

Chi Miigwetch to Nicole Bernard & Stephanie Stone for the Nomination 2026.

I was out & about today, running my usual errands, banking, groceries & of course Value Village thrift store. I ran into a few Pikwakanagan Members & it was a good feeling to hear how supported I am for this election. I love the smiles & good conversations!

I serve & live here in Pikwakanagan in all that I do. I hold a Bachelor’s Social Work Degree. I may have retired from full-time employment but I carry my sacred bundle & continue to serve our families in Our Algonquin Territory. In my past term in office, we here in Pikwakanagan took control of our inherent rights in protection oI Our Children. Our children are Our Future. This led to the creation of Nigig Nibi Ki-win Gamik – Child/Family Well-being Agency.

There were a few topics mentioned, one main concern is our Algonquin Land Claim, Building Algonquin Nation, Our Future in regards to Economic/Financial Sustainability. These are topics facing us all as Pikwakanagan moves forward into our future. These are topics that will require us all to stand strong together & get involved in a good way to ensure collective voices are heard. There are many challenges that we face but the challenge of Beneficiary may be the most sensitive topic of all. Let’s remember that our ancestors were forcibly removed from their territory by assimilated federal policies. These same policies are still in play to eliminate our children from their status as “Indian”. We were never Indian, we are Anishinabek connected to our land. The building of Algonquin Nation is in our language. Anishinabe Algonquin is singular describing one. Anishinabek Algonquins describes us all as Nation.  In recent campaign speeches our youth asked a question “can Pikwakanagan become a Capital to connect Algonquins in both Ontario & Quebec? Well why not? Building Bridges would certainly give us a stronger hold moving forward. Remember it is assimilated policies that separated us from each other & our land. But those policies will never touch our Inherent Rights in our connection to Our Territory for we are Anishinabek.

When it comes to Economic and Financial Sustainability it’s in Us All. Imagine the possibilities of business opportunities in both Macro & Micro Economic Ventures. Financial Sustainability comes from those economic ventures. All it takes is our imagination & a leap of faith.

We must continue to Honour Our Algonquin Ancestors, Culture & Language for these are keys that ties us to our Ancestral Territory. The connection to the land gives us our center balance to creation. May we continue our practices of hunting, fishing & gathering so that Our Children & their seven generations still yet may grow stronger & steadfast in the Land of their Algonquin Ancestors.

We can move forward together into the future & face these challenges as We show Our Strength as Anishinabek Algonquins.

Blessings Anishinabek Algonquins – Vote Barbara Sarazin Pikwakanagan Council 2026
